Breaking the Chains

Breaking — or dissolving — the chains of our conditioned past is a necessary part of our evolution and the passage towards a greater reality — in alignment with who we are today and where we want to be tomorrow.

Everything has its time and place. The past wasn’t bad or wrong. It was perfect. But nothing is made to last.

There was a time when our world was a sandbox, and we would crawl around and explore whatever came our way. This was magic and we were aligned with life. But we grow, moments pass, and the next stage arrives.

Perhaps we should all revisit this metaphorical sandbox occasionally, allowing ourselves the joy of curious exploration and getting our hands dirty — without any blame — but that is another point.

This post explores the concept of breaking the chains of the past — not with force, but with awareness, conscious attention, and loving decision.

Goodbye My Lover — Goodbye My Friend

You HAVE been the one — But you ARE NO LONGER — The one for me.

To welcome what is to come — what is meant to be — we must say goodbye to what has been. Holding on to things that have run their course limits our growth and the quality of our lives.

This can include outdated belief systems, unhealthy relationships, unconscious habits, and reactive attitudes that simply do not serve us in this moment of our lives — and perhaps never have!

To move on and grow, we must first let go.
To be light and free, we must first forgive.

What bag of bricks have you carried for too long?

What unnecessary props is it time to drop?

Breaking the Chains:

Introspection and Conscious Attention

First, we must be willing to see. From there, we can become aware. And only then can we begin our deliberate journey toward change.

In my experience, it is a laborious process, and easier said than done.

Even after recognizing and knowing — at least intellectually — what serves me and what doesn’t, I’ve found myself slipping into the same old traps —And I am quite sure I am not alone in that.

Repeatedly, I’ve caught myself in the middle of unconscious patterns where emotional reactions build and escalate — creating imaginative scenarios from sadness, anger, inferiority, injustice, and frustration.

The same familiar loops on repeat — the inner dialogue running wild. As I’ve become more aware of this, it has become clearer how these negative conversations lower my vibration. And with that, my quality of life.

This then becomes my state of being, which I in turn emanate — affecting my environment and the people around me negatively.

Knowing is not Enough — We must Apply Ourselves

A part of us KNOWS. But beneath — or above — that knowing is an overriding pattern — so deeply ingrained it manages to override even our clearest insights.

And so. If we want to get out of this negative self-fulfilling prophecy, we must consciously focus on what serves us.

We need to repeat in order to remember. With intention we need to choose our thoughts — over and over again. This shift in consciousness is not done in a flash, but through consistent and deliberate practice.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is life of our dreams.

Writing as a tool for personal growth

This was how my current writing journey began in September 2022 when I decided that enough was enough. I wrote, with intention, and as I let it all out, I saw what it was about — the mind, the thoughts, the emotions, and my tired, heavy, and frustrated state of being.

Through journaling, I found an outlet — a place of reflection in order to see myself and my life from a new perspective.

With each sentence, something was shifting. I saw the inner dialogue quietly playing in the back corners of my mind. And with that, new questions began to rise:

Is this really true? Could there be another point of view?

Could, perhaps, these stories be partly or completely false?

How are these ideas and narratives affecting my energy?

I began to realize how my thoughts were shaping my reality, and the more I saw it, the more I knew it.

And now, as we are becoming more aware, we can ask ourselves newer and even more challenging questions:

How can I think differently?

What am I not seeing?

What is the hidden message in this experience? What is the blessing in disguise?

Consistency Is Key — With Words We Create

How we think, act, and speak defines who we are, and it is in our hands to shape our lives — one day after the other.

Either by default, we fall back into the unconscious, comfortable, and familiar. Or with devotion and dedicated practice, we consciously co-create our lives. Brick by brick. Step by step. With thought, word, and action.

Each day, the house is built.
Each day, the temple is cleaned.
Each day we affirm ourselves.
Each day, we co-create our lives.

The Power of Words — Commitment — and Intention

This is Day 4 of my 31 Days of Commitment — a personal commitment to publish one blog post per day for the entirety of August. Beginning as a sequence about writing, journaling, and authentic self-expression — deepening into personal choice and how we have the power — when we choose — to shape our lives.

This piece was originally published on medium.com, and you can find the complete 31-day series there — a living archive that explores the human capacity and experience of life.

Clear intention and conscious attention are the keys. In some of my older (and longer) blog posts, I explore The Transformational Power of Language,  Personal Choice and how We Are The One with the Power to Choose.

As I am — just like you — on an exploratory journey through life, I welcome any reflections, thoughts, or feedback. Thank you for reading. See you soon.
